This 23rd day of September, 2018 started out like any other fall Sunday morning except for the continuous roar of motorcycles migrating up the hill on State Route 20 like snow geese moving south for the winter heading into the beautiful island town of Anacortes, Washington.
Yes…its finally here !! The 37th annual Oyster Run. The city of Anacortes hosts this event on the 4th Sunday of September every year. For locals its the biggest event of the year. In order to get there, there is an incredible scenic ride through the Skagit Valley on State Route 20 with views of Mt. Baker and the Northern Cascades that takes you to Anacortes on Fidalgo Island. Anacortes is considered the gateway to the San Juan Islands. From Anacortes you can access San Juan Island, Orcas Island and Sydney B.C. on Vancouver Island by ferry.
This event is free and has been kept going since 1981. Most importantly all bikers are welcome.
The city of Anacortes takes pride in making the event biker friendly, safe and entertaining. There are apparel vendors, food vendors and free live music.
The city is well organized to receive the 10,000+ bikers anxious to show off their rides. It is considered the largest rally in the Pacific Northwest. The event allows the participants to line Commercial Avenue in Old Town Anacortes on both sides and in the middle while leaving ample room for cruising the strip and for pedestrians to look in awe at some of the most beautiful custom bikes around. So, Mark your calendar for next year and take a ride and participate in the 38th Annual Oyster Run on Sunday September 22nd , 2019.
You’ll thank yourself !!
