This is the New DeLorean

DeLorean is back, and by back – we mean they’re making at least one new model. More are planned. The first new model in over three decades is the Alpha V. It was in part designed by Italian design firm Italdesign, who have a VERY long list of automobile designs to their credit. DeLorean say they are focued on the human interaction element, which pays tribute to the massive fan base around the DMC-12. If you have a rolling piece of art, it’s only naturant to want to touch, feel and connect with it.

Specs on the new model are somewhat limited at this time, but we expect to see an all electric model with 300+ miles of range, 0-60 in just under 3 seconds (2.99) and 0-88mph in around 4.35 seconds. Which means you won’t need the entire mall parking lot to make your time jump. It’s a 2 door model, with huge gull wings. Both the front and rear passengers will use the same door.

There will be an Alpha5 launch edition, which appears to come in a very nice dark red. No word yet on pricing. That will be revealed at the 2022 Pebble Beach Auto Show on August 21.

There are many things that stand out about the next chapter in DeLorean’s story. It was no doubt a difficult path to navigate. Certain classic elements must be represented to honor the tradition of the brand. However, this is not a resto-mod, it’s a completely new car and there must be modern features in order to sell enough to keep the company in business. That said, it appears there is not an exposed metal / stainless version available on the Aplha5. All of the new models DeLorean shows us on their site are painted.
